Disney announces dual release for Raya and the Last Dragon on Disney+ and theaters

To kick off a flurry of announcements during Disney’s Investor Day presentation, The Walt Disney Company announced that its next Disney Princess film have a dual launch with Disney+ and theaters for March 2021.

Raya and the Last Dragon will got to Disney+ under the same Premier Access banner as “Mulan” from earlier this year. No word yet on the price point, but “Mulan” was set at $29.99 to unlock on top of Disney+’s subscription prices.

Raya and the Last Dragon is the latest Disney film to make the move to streaming after the COVID-19 pandemic laid waste to the 2020 movie season. Other films to make the move include the latest Disney-Pixar masterpiece “Soul,” which is set to hit on Christmas Day.

Raya and the Last Dragon stars Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as the title character and Akwafina (The Farewell) as the mysterious dragon in question. The film is set to debut on Disney+ and theaters March 12, 2021.
