Blockbuster movies are officially set to make a triumphant return in 2021. After the COVID-19 pandemic destroyed 2020’s entire summer movie season, movie fans everywhere are eager to get their hands on all of the movies they missed over the past year. Lucky for us, most studios have contingency plans in place to ensure the safe distribution of their movies no matter what.

Even though the pandemic’s days finally seem to be numbered, any potential hiccup in vaccine distribution and COVID-19 case numbers could throw another wrench into Hollywood’s release schedule again. For this reason, the rise of streaming services (triggered by Netflix) turned out to be an incredible investment for the entire industry.

Most major studios how have their own streaming services to distribute their content with minimal financial losses and potential long term benefits for subscriber growth. Many of 2020’s delayed blockbusters now have their own streaming service safety nets, which means its time to get excited for some big movies that are definitely coming in the near future.

The movies on this list will be broken down into three categories:

  • 2020 Blockbusters Definitely Coming Out
  • 2021 Blockbusters Definitely Coming Out
  • Blockbusters That Can Still Move

Dividing up 2020 and 2021 blockbusters will help differentiate what we missed from last year and what was always supposed to come out this year. Also, movies that are definitely coming out are determined by whether or not they have crossed the metaphorical “point of no return,” meaning that the movie has a streaming service release date and/or began an ad campaign that cannot be reversed. Still, there are plenty of movies that could potentially move release dates if need be, which will all be broken down in the final category

This list will be updated overtime as more information becomes available.
